Mixed-age communities
Children learn from and mentor one another, building social skills, responsibility, and real community.
Richmond Montessori School has welcomed young children across Winnipeg for over a decade, guided by a simple belief: children learn best when we follow their lead.

We believe every child arrives curious, capable, and ready to learn. Our role is to prepare a beautiful environment, then step back and let that natural drive unfold.
Across our four campuses, children discover independence, focus, and a genuine love of learning that lasts far beyond their years with us.
Richmond Montessori was founded in 2012 by AMI-trained directress Asha Doreen Edirisinghe (ECE III). Our classrooms are led by Montessori-certified teachers and accredited Early Childhood Educators.
ECE III, AMI Director
Asha received her AMI Montessori Diploma in 2006 after two years at the Good Shepherd Maria Montessori Training Center in Sri Lanka. In Manitoba she completed the Early Childhood Educator II program and the Early Childhood Program Management course, and is qualified as an Early Childhood Educator III under The Community Child Care Standards Act.
Before opening Richmond Montessori School in 2012, she taught and supervised in two Winnipeg Montessori schools for more than six years. She had also taught kindergarten for two years, and primary English, mathematics, science, and geography for four years. She has two sons, both raised in a Montessori environment.
She builds a loving classroom and a versatile program on Montessori methods, with Kinder Music, French, and physical activity shaped to each child.
Classrooms are staffed with Montessori-certified teachers and accredited Early Childhood Educators. Staff are classified under Manitoba Family Services and Labor as Early Childhood Educators and Child Care Assistants.

"Children acquire knowledge through experience in the environment."
— Dr. Maria Montessori
A century-old, research-backed approach — as fresh and relevant today as ever.
We observe each child closely and offer the next lesson exactly when they're ready – never rushed, never held back.
Scientifically designed, self-correcting Montessori materials turn abstract ideas into something children can touch, move, and master.
Every shelf is placed with intention, so children move freely, make real choices, and take ownership of their space.
Younger children learn from older peers, and older children lead – building empathy, confidence, and community.
Our Montessori-certified teachers and accredited Early Childhood Educators guide gently, protecting each child's concentration.
Built into each material, control of error lets children self-correct – building competence, independence, and confidence.
